Chaya 101

By |January 27th, 2023|Categories: Misc.|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Chaya 101

My heart is to teach the next generation the basics of cooking and maintaining a home.  My motto is- If I can do it, you can too! This past summer, while home from college, my oldest son was determined to learn how to make chaya (Indian tea). Starbucks chai tea just wasn’t hitting the spot (and it was way too pricey 💰) So if making tea hasn’t been your cup of tea, check out the video below. If he can do it, you can too. Give your kid a cup of chai, and he’ll drink for a day. Teach him

Forgiveness

Last night, I sat on the edge of my daughter's bed as she was getting ready to sleep. Now that she's older, bedtime stories have transitioned from silly made-up adventures to deeper real-life conversations. Stressors at school, teachers, and relationships are just a few of the topics we chat about in the dark. Sometimes we giggle, and other times, I just listen as she vents. Growing up these days is hard, ya'll. Yesterday was a little lighter.  She said, "I like hearing about how you met Daddy." It's a story she's heard plenty of times, but it prompted my journey

Making the Most of Our time

My husband, Lance, and I are alike in some ways, but opposite in more ways. Maybe you’ve seen the meme:  There are 2 kinds of people in the world: One says “It’s ALREADY 10 p.m. “ the other says “It’s ONLY 10 p.m.” and they marry each other.  That describes us PERFECTLY. I am the early bird. Lance is the night owl. There have been times when I was starting my work day, and he was going to bed.   Here is what I have learned over the years: One way isn’t better than the other. It is just different.

New Year, Divine Appointments

By |January 17th, 2023|Categories: Misc.|Comments Off on New Year, Divine Appointments

As we step into a new year, many of us are looking for a new beginning, a fresh start, and somehow trying to do things differently than in year’s past. Over the years, I have cycled through the different ways to focus my mind and heart for the coming year.   There were the new year’s resolutions, word of the year, no resolutions at all, read through the Bible, change all my bad habits, change only one habit, and on, and on.   I’ll be honest, it feels like I have tried them all.  Resolutions have come and gone, and often things

Fish Molee

What I love about South Indian cooking is that left overs don’t taste like leftovers. In fact, the flavor of the dish is often better the next day…and this dish, fish molee, is no exception.  I didn’t grow up eating fish molee, but once I tried it, I was hooked…and thankfully, my friend Shyni Ann Simon had an easy fish molee recipe which I’ll be sharing with you today.  Now for the reason why I share these recipes on a ministry page.  In Titus 2:5, Paul encourages older women (that’s me) to teach younger women (that might be you) how

Jesus

I had changed into the hospital gown and was laying down on the hospital bed.  The nurses were starting my IV and I was feeling something...indescribable. Excited? Nervous? Exhausted? All the things. I was in labor with our son and at any given moment, I could have burst into tears because I had all the feels bundled up inside. Anyone could have said anything, and the floodgates may have opened, but somehow I held it in. The nurses were hooking me up to the monitors, my husband was at my bedside, and the phone rang.  It was my sister calling

Slip Away and Pray

We had just finished a delicious Thai dinner. The conversation was fun and meaningful. Our team doesn’t get to meet in person often because trying to coordinate six women’s schedules can be challenging (obviously - only 5 could join this time but we decided to go for it!) Before we could even start thinking about what sugary item to end our evening with, my sister (and fellow Whispers & Fringes leader), Binu, spoke up:  “Hey ladies, when we’re done, maybe we could all get in my van and pray!” If you know Binu, this isn’t shocking. First of all, she

Happy New Year

By |December 30th, 2022|Categories: Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on Happy New Year

My word for the year 2022 was contend.  And contend I did. I am thankful that I was hearing God enough at the beginning of the year to know what was coming, because there were definitely times during the year that I did not hear His voice at all.   I will spare you the gritty details, but in every aspect of my life, in every sphere of influence, there was a battle.  At every level I felt attacked- down to my physical, emotional, and spiritual being.  I felt exhausted and sorry for myself.  I read Job twice--- you can laugh

The One Thing

By |December 15th, 2022|Categories: Articles, Devotionals, Facebook|Comments Off on The One Thing

It was the beginning of the school year. I watched her as she stood there, waiting for the school bus. Would she remember her bus number? Would it get her to school on time? Was the bus driver nice? All the things. All the things I worry about- they seem minor, but somehow my heart beats faster the more I dwell on it. Then, just last week:  "Mama, my friend and I were watching a video and I saw something I shouldn't see..." My stomach drops. I may have stopped breathing for a second, but I try not to look

God’s Goodness

By |December 2nd, 2022|Categories: Devotionals|Comments Off on God’s Goodness

The song “Goodness of God” (as sung by CeCe Winans) has been on repeat for me over the past few weeks.  It seems to be the perfect soundtrack to my life, especially as we enter into this holiday season. The song is a powerful reminder that through the highs and the lows, God is still good. As our families gathered for Thanksgiving this year, it was evident that our lives are not perfect by any means.  We had loved ones missing due to death, strained relationships and broken  ties.  Others are struggling with serious health issues, financial strain, job loss,
