VIDEO: Ruth & Orpah

By |May 28th, 2021|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on VIDEO: Ruth & Orpah

You have probably heard of a woman named Ruth in the Bible, but what about her sister-in-law, Orpah? Don’t worry if you said no. You are not the only one. Some decisions impact a moment. Others will define our lives. That was the case for Ruth, Orpah, and me. A big thank you to Lighthouse Baptist Church for the opportunity to share a little video teaching with their young adults group. My prayer is that it will encourage everyone who watches it! P.S. Don’t judge my coffee intake. ~Anu https://youtu.be/4lGCgtGA72A

First Love

By |May 28th, 2021|Categories: Misc.|Comments Off on First Love

I had a special request for my husband when we first started getting to know each other: Please don't say "I love you" until you are ready to make a commitment and propose. Love was sacred to me, and I needed some assurance that he was willing to make sacrifices and be devoted to me before he made the statement. I was trying to guard my heart and not give in to emotions. I still fondly remember the way I felt when he looked at me or how natural it felt to converse with him....it didn't matter who else was

Pray for Wisdom

By |May 27th, 2021|Categories: Misc.|Comments Off on Pray for Wisdom

The past few weeks have been challenging with work, children, and family.  A few curveballs came in each of these areas of my life.  My initial thought was what am I going to do?  How am I going to handle this? The truth is, life brings me these challenges quite often.  And usually my first reaction is worry, anxiety, and fear.  It’s like a nagging pit in my stomach that can be pushed aside temporarily, but it usually stays simmering just under the surface. Last week as I was facing one of these situations, I remembered the prayer of  Solomon.

Who Are Your Friends?

By |May 21st, 2021|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , |Comments Off on Who Are Your Friends?

It sounds simple enough but the consequences were detrimental. “But Amnon had a friend...” 2 Samuel‬ ‭13:3‬ ‭This friend, Jonadab, was described as a “crafty” man. This isn’t Pinterest crafty. It was more like “cunning” or “shrewd” according to other translations. Jonadab offered Amnon some absolutely horrible advice. Unfortunately, Amnon listened, and followed through with it. From there, King David’s family was torn apart. All because Amnon had a friend. Who are your friends? Who are the people who speak into your life? Who do you go to for advice? Who will speak the truth to you in love? Who

School’s Out For Summer

By |May 21st, 2021|Categories: Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on School’s Out For Summer

Tomorrow is my kids' last day of school. This academic year has flown by. This CALENDAR year is flying by. As we were talking about all the things that they're going to "miss" about school (which was a very short list), I started remembering my own anxiety that I had about their school year. That anxiety started back in 2020, when the previous school year came to an abrupt halt. We knew that it was going to be their final year at that school, and I was so sad for them that they couldn't go back and say bye to

Potato Marykutty

By |May 20th, 2021|Categories: Misc.|Comments Off on Potato Marykutty

In Titus 2:5, Paul encourages older women (that’s me ) to teach younger women (that might be you) how to ‘stay busy’ or as some translations put it, ‘maintain a home’...and girls, part of maintaining a home might involve a little cooking.  But don’t worry...the recipes I post are always simple & do-able.  Today, we will be making...drum roll please ? ???... Potato Mezhukkupuratti!!! Don’t let the crazy English spelling of this simple South Indian dish intimidate you.  It’s pronounced more like potato merry-courti or as my sister & I used to say, Potato Marykutty.  It really doesn’t matter how

Dance

By |May 13th, 2021|Categories: Misc.|Comments Off on Dance

I.can't.dance. Just ask my sister, who can "feel the rhythm" and dances flawlessly while having a blast doing it...and while I watch from the sidelines. Ask my friend, who graciously asked me to join her in a choreographed Indian dance years ago and realized how robotic my legs were. While I appreciate the beauty of the moves, dancing just didn't come naturally to me. Maybe I'm too self-conscious and can't let myself go.. Maybe I'm concerned that I'll look undignified... But, you know where you might find me moving just a little? At church. Wowza, you get that guitar strumming,

He Knows

This key.  I haven’t been so happy to see an inanimate object in a long time. You see, I haven’t seen this key for at least 2 years.  It’s the 2nd key to my van.  For two years I looked for it on and off, but could not find it.  I didn’t worry about it too much because I had another key that I could use. Fast forward to present day.  I was in the process of selling my van.  A friend of mine was coordinating the sale process.  I figured I had time to find the extra key before

In the Zone

By |May 12th, 2021|Categories: Misc.|Tags: , |Comments Off on In the Zone

My husband has this playlist. And every Sunday morning (like clockwork) we listen to the same set of songs as we get ready for church.  A couple of Malayalam worship songs (that’s his native language) and a three minute mini sermon titled “That’s my King.”  He says it gets him in the Sunday morning worship zone.  But if he is about to do a big presentation in front of a client at work, the playlist switches. Think Rocky theme song.  He says it gets him hyped and ready to conquer the world...or at least close a deal.  Music has a

An Open Letter

By |May 6th, 2021|Categories: Misc.|Tags: , |Comments Off on An Open Letter

An open letter to all of those returning to church now... Hi there!! It's so nice to see you! Here are a few things that you should know before you sit next to me. It's so good to see your face! In case you can't tell, I am smiling at you under my mask. Our first interaction may be awkward. I am a hugger/hand shaker, so no contact kinda throws me for a loop. I don't really know what to do. But, welcome back! We can bump elbows, I guess? I don't care if your vaccinated or not, masked or
