If you look around – at work, at home, and maybe even at the grocery store…there is always a problem.

And guess what?

God has given you and I specific gifts and abilities to help solve these problems. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are uniquely equipped to do what others cannot.

Joseph was a great example of this. His story is found in the Old Testament.

From a young age, God spoke to Joseph in dreams. God revealed to Joseph that he would one day be in a position of power.  Unfortunately, Joseph was young and prematurely told his brothers about his dreams.

Their response? Let’s just say they weren’t as excited for him as he was for himself.

Fast forward many years later.

Joseph was thrown into a pit (by his brothers), sold into slavery, wrongly accused, and ultimately imprisoned.

But wherever Joseph was placed, he found a way to help.

Even in prison, “The warden put Joseph in charge of all the other prisoners and over everything that happened in the prison. The warden had no more worries, because Joseph took care of everything. The Lord was with him and caused everything he did to succeed.”  (Genesis 39:21‭-‬23 NLT)

Joseph wasn’t able to choose what happened to him, but he was able to choose how he responded to what was happening to him.

John C Maxwell says it best, “Life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I respond to it.”

I don’t know what unfair hand life has dealt you, but I believe, like Joseph, how we choose to respond can ultimately change our outcome.

Father, help us to respond to the problems which surround us in a way that honors You and serves those around us. And regardless of what we personally may be going through, like Joseph, may we always achieve Your purpose for our lives here on the earth.
