Recently when I taught on worship, it brought to light what I have felt for years.  Worship is giving extravagant honor to the Lord. The amount of love God has demonstrated is unfathomable and He alone is worthy of all praise.

I don’t know about you, but it seems completely natural to do such when all is well in your world, right? You are blessed beyond belief and enjoying His presence and you can’t help but praise Him.

But what is our response when our world seems to come to a halt? Unexpected news or circumstances appear out of left field and suddenly, singing praises doesn’t feel natural … or does it?

David is known as the Psalmist in the Bible, the man after God’s own heart, the worshipper.  We can read Psalm after Psalm of his words honoring God. But not all of them were written when he was in a season of prosperity.  In fact, in Psalm 57 we learn that he wrote those words while he was hiding in a cave. David had followed the calling on his life: from a shepherd boy to the next king of Israel as deemed by the prophet Samuel. But the existing king, Saul, wasn’t feeling this change. And to David’s shock, Saul wanted to kill him.

In spite of such confusing and frightening circumstances, David pens this Psalm by asking God for help, sharing the negative circumstances he is surrounded by and then, concludes in verses 9 through 11 by praising God: “I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.”

I don’t know what you may be facing today: maybe you, like David, are in circumstances that are heart wrenching and you are scared and desperately in need of God’s help.  Don’t let your cries out to God stop right now. Let them echo loud and clear and as those tears fall, know that God is with you and He will help you … always has been been and always will. And honor him for His goodness and faithfulness because my dear Friend, we serve a God who deserves all glory, honor, and praise.
