Scripture is clear…we live in a cause and effect world.
You reap what you sow. What you plant is what you will harvest. If you plant corn, you shouldn’t be surprised if you reap corn.
I’ve lived a lot of my life not really taking this concept to heart. I believed that if God put a dream in me, then He would just make it happen. I just had to wait for the right opportunity to take hold of it.
But I was wrong. The book of Proverbs constantly talks about the rewards of the diligent.
Diligence is the steady and earnest effort put forth towards a desired goal.
So is my dream going to just drop out of the sky and come to fruition?
It could. But most likely, it won’t.
The Bible has example after example of God actively working through His children to accomplish a great purpose And we see how God usually requires our participation in the process.
Abraham heard God tell him that He would make him a great nation. But Abraham had to leave his family of origin and go to a place he had never been before.
Moses had to go before Pharaoh and ask ten times before he let the people of Israel go.
David had to be faithful with the mundane job of tending his father’s sheep before he was able to kill Goliath and eventually become the greatest king Israel has ever known.
And on, and on the stories go.
There comes a time when we have to stop wishing and hoping and just start doing.
My friend, Anitha (Anu) is the real life example of that to me. I have admired Anu from near and far for a long time.
When Anu feels the nudge to do something, she does it, and she stays the course. From running a half marathon, to writing a blog, to online Bible studies, to podcasts, to speaking at conferences, Anu has stepped out and done the hard work when it wasn’t easy or glamorous. Whether the crowd is big, or just an audience of one, Anu is diligent and faithful.
The fruit of her diligence can be seen through the ministry of Whispers & Fringes. From a small bible study in her living room to a platform that reaches across the globe, this ministry has impacted my life and the lives of countless others.
Do you feel the nudge to do something that you know you should do, but have yet to do?
Then just take the first step. You don’t have to have it all figured out. At each step, you will find what you need to take the next one.
Most likely, what you will find is that God will exceed any expectations you had….far more than you could ever ask or imagine.
