I love to glean from the wisdom of the aged. So today, while visiting my parents, I asked my 92 year old grandmother (I call her Ammachi), if she had a word of encouragement for our Whispers & Fringes Readers.

She requested her Bible, and with the help of my translator (and husband), she shared the following.

My Ammachi asked me to consider the great faith of Noah.

Hebrews 11: 7a “By faith, Noah built a large boat in the middle of dry land. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, and acted on what he was told.”

Most scholars believe that Noah had never even seen rain, yet Noah believed that rain would come…and enough of it to flood the earth.

Is there something you have been praying for? A light refreshing mist that you have been waiting to feel?

Maybe, like the rain for Noah, it’s something you have never seen before and have a hard time even imagining it will take place (such as the restoration of a broken relationship or freedom over chains that have bound you or someone you love)…and as time passes, it’s getting harder to believe your prayers will ever be answered.

Keep in mind, during the entire ark building project, Noah never saw a single drop of rain. But he kept doing what God instructed him to do.

And what was the result of Noah’s faith and obedience?

vs 7b: “His family was saved. Noah’s act of faith drew a sharp line between the evil of the unbelieving world and the rightness of the believing world. As a result, Noah became intimate with God.”

Father, as we your children, continue praying for situations which seem impossible, let us not grow weary with despair, but rather let our faith in you grow deeper and richer with each passing day. And Lord, in the process…as we wait for the rain to fall…may we, like Noah, grow in our intimacy with You.
