All right, kids, settle in, it’s testimony time…

Our church recently completed a 40 day fast. It started in August as a 21 day fast.  We decided to participate as a family.  The kids were starting a new school year at a new school, and they were starting virtually instead of in person. I know most families are dealing with similar issues so you all know how stressful it can be.  We were fasting and praying for a smooth transition for all of us.

We were also praying about the sale of our previous home.  It went on the market about 10 days before school started.  We knew that we were cutting it close; families generally want to move and get settled before school starts.  We had 2 solid weekends before school started, so we were hopeful.  We had done some minor renovations and were hoping for a “Fixer Upper” type of return on our limited investment.  We envisioned a whirlwind of showings resulting in a bidding war that would result in us walking away with bags and bags of cash.  Okay, not exactly, but you get the picture.

Prior to our fast, we received several offers on our house.  All of them were under our asking price; several thousands of dollars under our asking price.  One offer was $50,000 under our asking price.  We were angry, frustrated and on the verge of being discouraged.  We started our fast with the intentions of taking the house off the market by the end of the fast if we didn’t receive a suitable offer.

Each morning during the fast, Monday through Friday, our church opened the campus for members to pray.  Each campus was open and one service was streamed  for those who wanted to participate from home.  Each morning, we woke up to join them online from 6 am- 7 am.

School started. The transition went better than I expected.

A few days before our fast ended, we received an offer for our house.  The offer was for an amount above our asking price.  We were ecstatic.

Sure, we had been praying for these things, but our fast gave us the breakthrough that we really needed.  It helped us refocus and recharge.

Is there something that you have been praying for? Are you worried about your future? Your family’s future? I want to encourage you to take the next step and fast.  Feeling stressed about the state of our world- racism, politics, wildfires and hurricanes?  Fast and allow God to reshape your perspective and give you peace.
