The man peered over his glasses as he studied my face. He wanted to make sure it matched the photo in front of him.
We had finally made it to the front of the long line of people returning back into the country after vacation. The process was long, but necessary.
Behind us were hundreds of people, pulling luggage, clutching their passports as they inched forward.  The officials were doing their job, allowing only the citizens to come back in. The man nodded and smiled, giving us the approval to move forward. We were relieved to be back home.
The proof of my citizenship in this country lays within the tiny words inside a booklet that fits in my hand, but the proof my REAL citizenship is found in another book, one written by God.
In Philippians 3, Paul says, “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,” (verse 20 NIV).
That’s why he was so bold to say, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 NIV
He knew where he belonged. And so do I.
For this, I’m grateful because no matter where you live today, there is disease, calamity, and chaos.
How reassuring to know that I don’t really belong here. There is an unseen kingdom that I belong to, and the King of Kings brings me peace, comfort, and wisdom as I live as an alien in this place.
We are just passing through, and when we truly understand that this isn’t really our home, we live in expectation of something greater that is to come.
We are on assignment here, and while we are present here, we don’t live as others do. We live with a hope and a peace and a desire to expand Christ’s kingdom here on earth.
So, no need to hold your breath as your clutch your “passport”.
When Christ has taken residence in your heart and has become Lord of your life, you have His seal of approval.
Walk in the reassurance that your citizenship is certain…and home is waiting for you.
