In Mark 6, Jesus performs a miracle of feeding 5,000 people with 5 loaves and 2 fish.  The disciples pass out the food and then collect 12 baskets of leftovers.  After this, they hop on a boat and float out to the middle of a lake.  In the middle of the night, the wind picks up and the disciples are terrified.  They are struggling to right the ship.  Jesus walks on the water to them, and the disciples see him, in the midst of their struggle, and are filled with fear.  Jesus climbs into the boat with them, calms the wind, and all is well once again.  The disciples are amazed that Jesus had the power to save them.

Mark 6:51-52 (NLT) says “Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.”

In the Bible, bread is symbolic for provision.  The disciples had seen Jesus provide for a crowd of 5,000 men, not including the women and children.  They had picked up the baskets of leftovers themselves.  In the next few verses, as the disciples enter their next trial, they seem to have forgotten about the provision that just happened right before their eyes.

I read this and wrote a note to myself– Don’t forget about your loaves.

I am just as guilty as those disciples.  God brings me out of one trial, and I forget about His provision as I walk into my next trial.  I don’t want to forget about the loaves from my last trial.  I want to face my fears head on and walk in the confidence of the previous battle that God lead me through.

God’s strength does not wane between each miracle.  His strength is the same in today’s trial as it will be in tomorrow’s.  Don’t forget about your loaves.
