Not sure how I missed it, but I did. The big warning on the side of the taco shell box that states- do not use in toaster oven. Well, I did exactly what the box advised me not to do. I wasn’t trying to be rebellious. I was just trying to heat up some taco shells.

I put the taco shells into my new toaster oven then walked into the other room. As I returned back to the kitchen, I saw flames shooting out of the toaster oven. My kids saw them too and we all screamed the name of Jesus louder than we ever have…not in vain but as a literal cry for help.

There was a reason for the warning on the box. The manufacturer, the creator of the taco shell, was not trying to “control” me. The manufacturer knew, what I found out the hard way…taco shells in a toaster oven equals disaster!! But I didn’t take time to read all the instructions. It was an innocent oversight.

Hosea 4:6 states, “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.”

Some see the Bible as a book of ‘Thou shall Nots.’ But the more I read His Word, the more I understand, every word, every do and every don’t, is for our good.

From Genesis to Revelation, God’s love and character is seen. Rules and guidelines are woven in…but it’s all God breathed.

In Genesis 17, God introduces the covenant of circumcision to Abraham. “For generations to come, every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised.”

Don’t worry, this post isn’t about circumcision (nor is it about tacos). It’s about God’s love, even in the details. Why was God so specific? Why does the baby have to be eight days old? Why not when it’s convenient for the parents? Is God just spouting out rules for rules sake? Is He trying to “control”us?

In the 1900’s, medical research discovered Vitamin K coupled with prothrombin causes blood coagulation or clotting. “On the eighth day, the amount of prothrombin present actually is elevated above one-hundred percent of normal.” (Dr. McMillen/ Apologetics Press) Thus making it an ideal day for a minor procedure, especially before modern day medicine.

In case I lost you at prothrombin or maybe even at taco shells, my point is…our creator knows us, loves us and truly desires what’s best for us. Each and every command or Word of instruction He gives is given out of love.

It is always for our good.

But it’s up to us to read His Word. It’s up to us to obey His Word.  If we choose to do our own thing, then like me and the tacos, the outcome is on us.

Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.”
