“They are letting people go.”  Words you never want to hear at work.  Hearing this cut our work family to the core.  Confusion and concern hung in the air…who were they keeping and who would leave?  We were suddenly thrust into a whirlwind of uncertainty.

I remember being in this season of doubtfulness eight years ago when I was first looking for a job.  I had just graduated and needed a stable place to work, and so the search started. I tidied up my resume, mailed it out to the masses, and waited.

My husband and I prayed for the place God wanted us to be, and He opened the door to an amazing company.  Truly, it was a dream come true for me to interview and to be offered the position. It was a relief to finally end the process of updating resumes, interviewing, and searching.  There is something about reaching the end of a process that is satisfying.

But, even more so when you know that God is in it.

In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses reminds God’s people that the Lord has been with them all along their 40-year journey through the desert as they fought battles to take possession of the land that God promised them.

One such king they had to defeat was Sihon, an Amorite, and his country.  God told the Israelites that Sihon would be defeated even before it happened.

How?  God told Moses that He would begin to put the terror and fear of the Israelites on all the nations under heaven.  The nations would tremble and be in anguish of them. (Deut 2:25)

So, ultimately, the battle was won even before there was any bloodshed because God was in it.  He was “preparing” the Israelites for victory.

That’s what gives me peace when I am thrust into that stomach-dropping, breath-stopping place of uncertainty.  God is in this. He is preparing the way for my victory.

I am in a season of unpredictability right now.  How about you?

How should we handle it?  Well, the only way we know we will be victorious is by walking out our faith. This is where our faith gets tested.  And how do we pass this test and not let our confidence be shaken?

We trust in a Father that has brought us through hot, sticky deserts in the past, and we thank Him in advance for our triumph.  It’s coming…because God is in this.
