What is your motivation when you decide to do a good thing? For most people, the answer is simply because it’s the right thing to do, not for the accolades or extra attention.

In Esther 6,  we read that when Mordecai discovered that two of King Xerxes’ officers had planned to kill the king, he exposed them.  Sounds to me like he was just doing what he knew to be right. And I think sparing a king’s life is a pretty big deal. It only seems fitting that he should have been awarded a medal of honor or something commendable.

But what do you do if your good deed goes unnoticed without any mention? Do you become bitter and question what was the point? Do you resolve not to do the right thing again?

Before you answer, know this: God notices. “Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance.” (Colossians 3:23 MSG) Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) says that “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him”.

We see how these verses came to fruition for Mordecai.  During a restless night, King Xerxes requested that the history of his reign be read aloud.  When he heard what Mordecai had done, he wanted to know how Mordecai had been honored. After King Xerxes realized that recognition was never given, he saw to it that it was done expeditiously.  Mordecai was entrusted with a royal robe and a royal horse, which he rode on through the streets, while a royal proclamation was made. Wow! Talk about honor!

Dear Friend, perhaps you find yourself in a position like Mordecai who seemed to be forgotten. Maybe you feel as if parenting is a thankless job or maybe you were just passed up for a promotion. Your labor is not in vain. Keep doing the right thing. Remember what the Word of God says, “And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” (Romans 8:28 AMP)

God notices you.
