Have you ever ignored advice from someone close to you who had your best interest at heart, but you wanted nothing to do with it?

Maybe you had something in mind and you really wanted to do it your way, and so ignored the counsel of someone older or wiser?  Or maybe you really believed that things would turn out differently for you than it had for others who had walked a similar road?

I know I’ve been there.  And I remember feeling like there was either a generational gap or a cultural gap that made me think that my outcome would be different, and those advising me didn’t know what they were talking about.  But most often when those situations played out, I wish I had heeded the advice given to me.

I’ve learned through my own experiences that at the end of the day whether there’s a generational or cultural gap, from the beginning of time until now, human nature is the same and what our ancestors struggled with are some of the same things we struggle with today.

King Solomon who had more wealth, power, and fame than anyone in the world, delcared “What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9 ESV)

For all the counsel I’ve received from the wise and godly who have advised me and for what I would say to those who ask me today, there’s so much wisdom for life found in the word of God.

Stay close to it and let every decision you make be guided by the truth found in its pages. Though your life will not always be easy, I believe your life will be marked by joy and peace.

Psalms 37 beautifully states….”The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong. They have made God’s law their own, so they will never slip from his path….Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land…Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace.” (Psalms 37:30‭-‬31‭, ‬34‭, ‬37‭ NLT)
