This key.  I haven’t been so happy to see an inanimate object in a long time.

You see, I haven’t seen this key for at least 2 years.  It’s the 2nd key to my van.  For two years I looked for it on and off, but could not find it.  I didn’t worry about it too much because I had another key that I could use.

Fast forward to present day.  I was in the process of selling my van.  A friend of mine was coordinating the sale process.  I figured I had time to find the extra key before it was sold.  However, things happened fast and a buyer was found pretty quickly.

I received a text that my friends were on their way to my home to pick up the title and extra key to complete the sale.  They live about 15 minutes from me.

As soon as I got the text, I remembered that I never was able to find the 2nd key.  I had looked high and low, but I could not locate it.

After I got the text, I started frantically looking in all the usual places that I thought it could be.

But still nothing.

So then I prayed. I had prayed for this before, but this time it was a different, urgent type of prayer.

I started my prayer by saying “God, IF you know where this key is….”.  And then I stopped myself and started over.  I said “God you KNOW exactly where this key is.  Will you please show me where it is?”

In about 20 seconds, the thought came into my head to look in between the washer and dryer in my laundry room.  What?  Why would my key be there?  I walked over to the laundry room.  In order to look there, I had to slide the washer and dryer apart because there was no space in between them.

And what do you know?  Right there on the floor, in between the washer and dryer was the key I had lost nearly 2 years ago.

I was surprised and yet not surprised at the same time.  I KNOW in my heart that the God of all time and space knows and sees all things.  So how could He not know where my key was?

Daniel 2:22 says “He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him.”

Too often, prayer is my last resort.  I will waste hours, days, and even years trying to do things in my own strength, while the resources of heaven can be at my fingertips.

For whatever you need today….wisdom, understanding, peace, patience, car keys… don’t be shy to ask your Father in Heaven.  He is willing and waiting to give you exactly what you need.
