There is a lot about the Israelites journey through the wilderness that sounds difficult but knowing which way to go wasn’t one of them.
A cloud by day…a pillar of fire by night. I wouldn’t mind that for my life too.
When I was in my mid 20’s, I remember being confused about some major life choices, including marriage. I talked it over with the young adult pastor at my church and he said something that has always stuck with me…
“Trust more in God’s ability to lead than your ability to follow.”
Psalm 25:12 Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. 13 His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. 14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant. 15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for he will pluck my feet out of the net.
This was a psalm of David full of beautiful promises for those who fear the Lord. Then, you get to verse 15 and it’s like…what???
David just spent all this time talking about how God will lead him and his eyes are on the Lord. So, how did his feet end up in a net?
Doesn’t that happen to us sometimes? We think we’re doing the right thing. We want to follow the Lord’s leading but somehow we find ourselves tangled up in something we didn’t see coming.
God doesn’t expect perfection from us. We’re not going to always get it right. We’re human. But I love that He is right there, ready to get us back on track.
Charles Stanley put it like this, “God takes full responsibility for the life wholly devoted to Him.”
The Lord is my shepherd…and I am glad. ~Anu
