Pastor Ryan Leak gave a convicting message at our church yesterday
His text was from Acts chapter 10 and he was comparing and contrasting the Roman Centurion Cornelius and Peter.
God asked Peter to meet with Cornelius, a God fearing Gentile, to share the gospel to his household and to fellowship with Gentiles. Peter, a strong and devout Jew, could not imagine himself eating what the Gentiles eat or spending time with anyone who was “unclean” according to Jewish laws.
But God clearly spoke to him three times to drive the point home. And Peter, though reluctant at first, submitted to the Holy Spirit and did what God asked him to do. And as a result, the gospel message was shared to many Gentiles who received the Holy Spirit and were baptized.
Pastor Ryan’s challenge to us was this…
If I have made up my mind about something or someone, could it be that I could be wrong?
Am I submitted to the Holy Spirit? Is there something I need to do differently?
Am I open to praying about seeing things differently?
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is for seasoned believers to think that they do not need to change. We feel that we are right and there is no way that we could be wrong.
But even Peter, the one who walked with Jesus for 3 ½ years, watched him die, fellowshipped with the resurrected Christ, and on whom Jesus said he would build his church on, was wrong.
If the Holy Spirit had to work on him, I could be wrong too.
Allow the Lord space to change me. Ask Him to help me to see people the way He sees people. Ask Him to give me a new perspective
If you can listen to the full sermon, I highly recommend it. It may be the key to unlocking something life changing for you.
