Have you ever googled something you should have been praying about?
I am ashamed to say. I have. And it wasn’t that long ago.
My head was spinning, my heart was heavy and I was at a complete loss for what to do. It involved people…and drama (which I try to run from…but couldn’t). So I did what I do when I don’t have the answers….I googled it.
“How to handle uncomfortable situations…”
As soon as I hit ‘search’ and began scrolling, conviction set in…”Really Binu, you’re googling this?” I could hear God’s still small (but stern) voice say to me.
I closed the browser. For matters of the heart, my IMMEDIATE go to, should be God.
In the Old Testament the great King David experienced a whirlwind of heart heavy, head spinning drama for most of his life (even before he became king).
The attitude his brothers gave him when he came bearing snacks…the jealousy of Saul…the trouble David got himself into with Bathsheba (when he should have been at war)…and the unresolved family drama between David and his children, Amnon, Tamar and Absalom (Jerry Springer material, for sure!!).
Some of David’s drama was self inflicted, but some of the drama he faced was unjust, confusing and cut deep into his soul. David voiced his complaints to God. His confusion, his feelings of betrayal, his loneliness, his sin…and each time, God heard him.
“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.” (Psalm 40:2 NLT)
Friends, in reading through David’s journey, God has been reminding me…If He can lift David out of the mud and mire, He can lift me out of my mud and mire too.
We live in a world where answers are just a click away, but for matters of the heart. I pray my knee jerk reaction will be to always turn to God… FIRST. For as excited as I get when my children come to my husband or I for advice, I believe God gets even more excited when His children turn to Him.
God wants to hear from us.
Whatever our situation, big or small, self inflicted or senseless…I believe God will do for us as He did for David.
‘He will set our feet on solid ground and steady us as we walk along.’ (Psalm 40:2b)
