I was determined. It wasn’t going to happen again.

The last time I went through airport security, I mistakenly left a bottle of water in my purse. The security scanners caught it and I was asked to step to the side. I then went behind the curtain for a more thorough search while my family waited up ahead. When I rejoined them, my husband just smiled and shook his head.

So like I said, I was determined. That wasn’t going to happen again.

Last week, I was getting ready to board a flight back home.  I double checked my bags. No bottled waters, no perfumes, no lotions, no liquids over 3.4 ounces.  With my head held high, I confidently walked through the airport security scanner.

The agent looked shocked. “Oh my, Could you please step to the side.” She showed me her monitor. The gray striped shirt I was wearing clearly lit up her screen.

The Bible tells us over and over again, God does in the spiritual what the airport scanner did in the natural. He examines us.
  • In Psalm 17:3 we read, “You probe my heart…you examine me at night and test me.”
  • In Jeremiah 17:10, God tells us, “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind.”
  • 1 Chronicles 28:9 states, “For the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the heart.”
After I landed, I checked my shirt.  Sure enough, 78% cotton, 15% polyester, and 7% metallic.
I had no idea.  Is metallic even a fabric?
And maybe I have no idea what all God sees as He examines me.
Unforgiveness- from years ago,  jealousy- from today’s search on social media, a little bit of innocent gossip, hints of racism, gluttony and even some greed.
I may be able to fool others, and even myself, but nothing gets past God.  He sincerely desires that we be free from anything which could detain us or hold us back. (Hebrews 12:1)
I learned two lessons from my airport experience.
  • #1- My husband has TSA precheck, I need it too.
  • #2- It doesn’t take much, in the natural and in the supernatural to slow us down and keep us from going where we need to go.
“Search me Oh God and know my thoughts; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything that offends you, and lead me along a path of everlasting life.”  Psalm 139: 23,24
