My husband has this playlist. And every Sunday morning (like clockwork) we listen to the same set of songs as we get ready for church. A couple of Malayalam worship songs (that’s his native language) and a three minute mini sermon titled “That’s my King.” He says it gets him in the Sunday morning worship zone.
But if he is about to do a big presentation in front of a client at work, the playlist switches. Think Rocky theme song. He says it gets him hyped and ready to conquer the world…or at least close a deal.
Music has a way of taking us places and steering our thoughts in a certain direction.
In 2 Kings chapter 3, Elisha needed to hear from God. So what does he do?
He intentionally switched his playlist.
“But now bring me a harpist.” While the harpist was playing, the hand of the Lord came on Elisha” 2 Kings 3:15 NIV
Elisha was one of the greatest prophets of all time.
He’s the one who got a double portion of Elijah’s annointing. God used Elisha to heal the waters with a bowl of salt, deceive the Moabite enemy of Israel into thinking the valley was filled with blood, resurrect the Shunammite’s son, multiply twenty loaves of bread to feed one hundred people, and the list goes on.
You’d think this man was always ‘on.’ But there were times that even the great prophet Elisha needed a little worship music to get him focused and in the zone.
Are you trying to hear the voice of God? Are you in need of His peace and His presence?
If Elisha, the prophet of prophets, needed to turn on some mood music to get his mind right & tuned into the Spirit of God…then perhaps we do too.
“But now bring me a harpist.” While the harpist was playing, the hand of the Lord came on Elisha” 2 Kings 3:15 NIV
