It was the strangest thing.

The year was 1999. I had just gotten married, moved across town & I was in search of a new job, closer to my new apartment.

I made some calls and sent out my resume. After some time, I received a call back from a district pharmacy manager. He was upbeat and we seemed to connect. It was promising.

“Could you meet me at our newest store on the corner of MacArthur and LBJ Freeway? It’s about to open and I think it would be a good fit for you.”

He didn’t have to ask me twice. “Yes sir, I’ll be there!”

I parked my car, said a prayer and as I was walking up to the store, I heard someone call my name. I recognized that upbeat voice.

“Hey, I’m so sorry. I am going to have to reschedule our meeting. An emergency came up & I need to be at another store ASAP. I will call you & reschedule.”

I understood. ‘Stuff happens. Things come up,’ I told myself. But as I made my way back to my car, I had a strange feeling…God was up to something.

In the days and weeks to follow, I never heard back from THAT company or from my new upbeat friend…and I never felt compelled to follow up.

It was so strange.

BUT after some time, I did hear back from a DIFFERENT company, who was also opening a new store.

This district manager asked that I go and meet a man by the name of Kent. “If everything works out, he will be your local manager.”

He didn’t have to ask me twice.

That night my husband and I met Kent. Kent was clearly exhausted from a long day of work so he wasn’t so upbeat, but he was kind. My husband and I walked away in agreement, THIS was it.

In Joshua chapter 10, the Israelites are facing the Amorites in battle.

But they weren’t alone. God was with them, literally working behind the scenes every step of the way.

God confused the Amorites, hurled down hailstones on them & even allowed the sun to stand still in order to give the Israelites more daylight to work with.

What might have seemed like a strange and chaotic day was actually God at work.

God does the same for you and I. Things don’t just happen.

My God sets up divine appointments or even creates divine “emergencies” to cancel my current appointments.

I used to worry & wonder, ‘God, what if I choose the wrong path?’

Now I know, the creator of the universe is the creator of me. If I am on the wrong path, He is more than able to reroute me and set me on the right one.

Friends, I met Kent in December of 1999. Twenty one years and two different companies later, Kent is still my manager.

As children of God, we have an assurance. Our Heavenly Father is always at work in our lives…in the confusion, in the hailstones, in the extra hour of sunlight, and in the strange cancellations.

If it’s just so strange, it just might be God.

“I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight…” (Isaiah 45:2a)
