Last week, we found a littler of baby bunnies buried in our flower bed.  My dog had been sniffing around a certain spot and when he began digging, he unearthed this group of babies, huddled together, their eyes still closed.  We managed to transplant them to another area where they could grow undisturbed.  We have been checking on the daily- watching them wake up and fatten up.

Maybe it’s these babies or the transition of winter to spring, but Ezekiel’s illustration of dry bones coming to life has been marinating in my mind for the last several weeks.  Watching the rebirth of the dry, dead things around me reminded me of the dry bones in Ezekiel.  In Ezekiel 37, God tells Ezekiel to speak to the valley of dry bones.  He tells him what to say, but once Ezekiel is obedient, there is transformation that comes forth.  After he prophesies breath into them, an army comes forth.

I find it interesting that the word ‘army’ is used there. He could have used crowd, mob, mass, multitude, assembly or any number of synonyms, but they don’t have the same connotation as ‘army’.

When you think of an army, what comes to mind? Muscles, strength, power… Men in uniform, with one purpose.  Unity.  Ready to take charge, poised and prepared for battle.

When God tells you to speak to the dead things in your life, they do not just come to life to wilt again later.  They come to life with renewed strength and purpose.  They come to life with unity, ready to do battle.

I want to encourage you (and myself) today.  Speak what God has been telling you to speak.  Stand in faith that your dry bones will come to life like an army under God’s power.
