My sister and I made a few adjustments to our schedules, got the green light from our husbands and off we went. A four and a half hour road trip to Houston to encourage our friend, Shyni. Her father (I call him Uncle) had been in the hospital and our friend was going through a bit of a rough time.
But by the time we reached his home in Houston, Shyni’s father had made a miraculous recovery! In fact, before we could put our bags down, Uncle began to share his testimony with us and all that the Lord had done!! He was beaming with the joy of the Lord!
I was amazed!
Look at God! Here I was thinking I was driving four hours to encourage my friend, but the opposite was happening. I was the one being encouraged! From the moment I walked into the door to the moment I left, my heart was filled! Uncle’s joy was contagious!
It was Jesus’ words from Luke 6:38 coming to fruition!
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Most people equate this verse with offering time…but friends, there’s more to it! Something supernatural happens when we give whatever we have (even if it’s just ourselves and our time) to God and His promptings! God has the sweetest and most creative ways of giving back!
Maybe you feel as if you don’t have the energy to reach out to anyone. My pastor used to say, “It’s better to act your way into a feeling than to feel your way into an action.”
So whether you’re feeling it or not, just do it..and your feelings will eventually get the memo. I promise!
Our trip was short but so sweet and refreshing…and if you know anything about Shyni, there was plenty of laughter, which was good for my soul! (Proverbs 17:22)
Here’s my challenge for us. Let’s start each day mission minded, willing to rearrange our schedules if we need to and ready to give of ourselves however the Holy Spirit prompts us to! Then get ready, God’s got something pretty special He wants to give us back in return!
