As soon as my children were old enough to understand the words “pool table,” my husband taught them an important house rule- “respect the game, respect the table.”
About a month after we bought our first home, we purchased a pool table. It was a significant investment in a game my husband enjoyed. Once my boys were tall enough to see above the table, my husband taught them the rules to the game. His hand on their hands . Instructing them where to hit the cue ball. Always reminding them to think one step ahead in order to be prepared for their next move.
God desires something similar from us.
Respect.
Not for a pool table….but for something much more valuable.
His Word.
Throughout Scripture, God always honored those who honored and respected His Word.
In the book of Ezra chapter 7, we read “for the gracious hand of his God was on him(Ezra), because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the Lord and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel.”
If you are like me and are currently facing crossraods at this particular juncture in life, I pray you find the same comfort I have found.
Trusting that…
If we take the time to study His Word, He will instruct us.
If we yield to His will and obey Him, He will guide us.
And with His gracious hand upon us, we will be led, every step of the way.
