My daughter lost 2 teeth in a week. This was a big deal around our house.  She is six and had not lost any teeth yet.  She had seen her big brother lose several teeth and was waiting patiently for her turn.

Finally, she had one loose tooth! She bit into a corn dog, not realizing that the stick went all the way through.  This was all that was needed to ramp up an already wiggly tooth.  She wiggled it and wiggled it, excited at what the tooth fairy would bring her once it came out.  Loose teeth really gross me out, and she enjoyed watching me squirm when I saw a once vertical tooth now lay almost completely horizontal. As the days went on, she began to get nervous.  She did not want it to hurt when the tooth came out.  She REALLY didn’t want it to hurt- no amount of money from the tooth fairy was worth her anticipated pain level.  She started to get anxious.

One night, my husband sat with her and prayed.  With his suggestion, she prayed that her tooth would not hurt when it came out.  (For the record, I thought this was crazy.)

Her first tooth came out early on Sunday morning, just as she was waking up.  It just fell out.  She came running to my room while it was still dark, excited to share the news with me.  The next one fell out a few days later while we were driving to the store.  She got out of the car without even realizing that the tooth had come out.  My son and I both started yelling at her, and she was totally confused. When she realized what we were telling her, she stuck her tongue where the tooth should have been and realized that it was gone. A big smile spread across her face.

I reminded her then of the prayer that she had prayed just a few days earlier. She smiled again, knowing that God had answered her prayer.

Her 3rd tooth came out yesterday, at the dinner table, effortlessly.

No tears. No pain.  Thankfully, no blood.

Such a small prayer built a step of faith for my daughter. I thought she was crazy for praying that, but now she has a testimony of what God has done for her.  I didn’t think that there was anyway that we could get through this without tears and pain.  God completely proved me wrong. I was challenged to increase my own faith.

What are you praying for- I hope it’s not loose teeth?  God wants to answer your craziest prayers.  Give Him the chance and watch your faith rise.

For the record, the tooth fairy did not come to my house.  I am a bad mom.
