There is a bird that lives in the trees behind my house.  It’s not my bird; it doesn’t even live in my yard.  But I know it’s there.  Every morning, from March until November, at the first glimmer of dawn, this bird starts to sing.  It starts off with a few notes and within an hour, it has a full on revival happening outside of my window.  It sounds very poetic–right?- to say that I awaken to the sounds of birds chirping.

It is seriously annoying.

You can judge me, it’s okay.  Yes, I am that person. I am not a morning person so there’s that. For a non-morning person, there’s nothing more annoying than a cheerful morning person.  I have not spoken with this bird personally, but I know that he is a morning person. That song is just too cheerful.  AND, you know those delicious Saturday mornings when you have every gluttonous intention of sleeping in? This bird wakes me up at 6 am no matter what.  Rain, sun, wind, whatever- it doesn’t matter.  It doesn’t stop the bird’s song.

Nothing stops the bird’s song.

In Luke 12:24-26, Jesus says “Look at the crows! They don’t plant or harvest, and they don’t have storehouses or barns. But God takes care of them. You are much more important than any birds. Can worry make you live longer? If you don’t have power over small things, why worry about everything else?”

So, now, I am trying to change my perspective on this bird.  When I hear its song, it serves as a reminder for me to not worry during this season of life.  If this bird has enough to sing about every morning, I do, too.  There are so many things out of my control, but if God can care for this bird, he can SURELY care for me and my family. And He will.
