If you lost your sense of taste, what would you be willing to do to get it back?

This past Thanksgiving, after a recent bout with Covid, my younger son found himself in that predicament. On the biggest feasting day of the year, he couldn’t taste.

Like most teenage boys, my son loves food…so this boy was willing to try ANYTHING to get those taste buds working again- ginger, turmeric, even consuming a burnt orange (a hack he heard about at school).

Seeing how desperate my son was, got me thinking…Am I that desperate to experience what David wrote about in Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good…”

When life gets busy (or I get lazy), what am I willing to do to get my spiritual senses back in full gear?

You see, my son knows what pumpkin pie tastes like. He has it every year..but he wanted to taste it again, THIS Thanksgiving!

In the same way, I’ve been so blessed to have tasted God’s goodness and to have experienced His presence year after year- but that can’t be enough. I can’t live on past spiritual experiences!

In fact, experiencing His presence should make me crave His presence even more! Tasting His goodness should make me want a piece of His goodness every single day!

(Girls, I’m preaching to myself!!)

This holiday season, in the middle of our busyness, I pray we stay hungry for God’s Word and thirsty for His presence. And may we do WHATEVER it takes to TASTE and see that God is STILL so so good!!’
