Isaiah 6:1 ‘In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord.”
What is it you see when the unexpected happens?
Isaiah saw the Lord…..and so did my brother in law, Lance.
As I wrote in a recent post, life changed for my family a few weeks ago.
My husband’s parents were involved in a serious car accident.
Dad is still in the ICU, but getting better each day. (Please pray for him). Mom is doing very well and will be home soon.
Over the past few weeks, I have been sending pictures of mom and dad’s progress to my sister & her husband.
One picture in particular was that of mom with my two boys.
I loved Lance’s response to the picture:
“Mom’s pic made me smile, but seeing you guys thrive in the fire makes me smile more. I see an extra man in there with you.”
In case you are unfamiliar with the “extra man,” Daniel chapter 3 tells the story.
Three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the god of King Nebuchadnezzar. Because of their refusal to bow, they were cast into a burning fiery furnace.
Guess who showed up in the fire with them?
I’ll let King Nebuchadnezzar tell you, “Did we not cast three men bound into the fire?….. I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”
God showed up. He was the 4th man.
It isn’t always easy to recognize the Lord in the midst of difficult circumstances.
But I am so grateful for God appointed people who see the Lord as Isaiah did….and remind us of His presence.
Now, every time I see that picture, I too see a 4th man.
If you are currently facing the unexpected, I pray that God gives you the opportunity to see that He hasn’t left the scene. God is still in the picture.
And if you know someone in the midst of a fiery furnace, remind them, as Lance reminded me, the “extra man” is in the fire with them.
Isaiah 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned”
