It’s been four years, but I still remember the song the worship team was playing as I walked into church that particular Sunday.

I’ll be honest, I might have been mouthing the words, but my heart was having a hard time believing what I was singing.

“Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah, He’s roaring with power and fighting our battles…Who can stop the Lord Almighty?”

The lyrics were scriptural and theologically sound, that wasn’t the issue…the issue was the battle I was facing.

It felt like a battle between good and evil, and evil was winning…by a landslide.

Where was my Lion?

In Craig Groeschel’s recent message,  “The sermon I didn’t want to preach,” Pastor Craig speaks about another time in history when evil seemed to prevail.

The story can be found in 2 Kings 19.

It was 701 BC and the CRAZY Assyrian army was planning an attack on Jerusalem.  This army was so crazy, they literally put the CRAY in CRAZY!

You see, the Assyrians didn’t want to simply destroy their enemy, they wanted to humiliate and psychologically torment them. In fact, they would send graphic postcards before their arrival to let their enemies know just exactly how they planned to terrorize them.

It was a time of national turmoil in Jerusalem and the men of the city felt utterly helpless and defenseless.

Where was their Lion?

But just as the Assyrians began their pre-attack tormenting festivities, King Hezekiah, the King of Jerusalem, cried out to God in prayer, the prophet Isaiah stood with him…and the Lion of the Tribe of Judah began to roar!

God sent one angel to dismantle 185,000 Assyrian warriors.

The people of Jerusalem were saved because one king didn’t give up, one prophet stood with him and one angel was sent to deliver them.

The God of Israel became their fortress.

Friends, it seems like we are all facing something these days. (That just seems to be the theme of 2020)

Whatever your crazy looks like…be encouraged. The same God that demolished an evil army of 185,000, fights for you today.

Whether we sing it loud & proud or can barely get the words out…the words below still ring true.

“Our God is a Lion, the Lion of Judah. He’s roaring with power & fighting our battles…Who can stop the Lord Almighty?”
