My son is fascinated with trains.

Fortunately for him, there is a passenger train track in front of his school, so he gets the experience of watching it pass several times a day.

It’s not enough that the train passes, though. He also closely monitors the railroad crossing sign as it slowly pulls up and down into position, and refuses to move until it locks into place.

At school pickup time, the 5 o’clock train brings the people home after a long day, and he gets a kick out of watching this lengthy process as I stand in the blazing sun…almost every. single. day.

One morning, he was in one of his moods as I drove him to school.  We parked the car, and after unbuckling his carseat belt, he refused to get out.

I felt the pressure of getting to work on time mounting inside, and I unsuccessfully attempted to coax him out of his seat.  He didn’t want to go to school.

Just then, I heard the distant whistle of the train, and so did he.

He shot out of his seat to get a better view.  I couldn’t have been more relieved for the train that day.

Have you ever been moody?  Refusing to move or make a change “just because I don’t wanna…”

Maybe it’s an attitude toward something or someone, or maybe it’s a fear that things won’t turn out the way you want.

We put limitations on ourselves when we refuse to take a shot at something or refuse to change our minds about an idea.

I remember crossing my arms and refusing to let go of items on my “qualities that my future husband MUST have” list.

I insisted on an idea of how my future husband should be and later realized that I was limiting myself.

Again, I crossed my arms when a few years after getting married, my husband decided to make a career move. I wasn’t the greatest cheerleader…all because of my mindset.

Once I changed my way of thinking, a new world of possibilities opened for me, and I have enjoyed watching him blossom into what he envisioned from the very beginning.

Sometimes it takes a train whistle, a wake-up call of sorts, to make a move or get yourself out of a “mood”.

Ask God to give you wisdom in whatever area you are struggling, whether it’s a job change, a financial decision, or a “must-have-these-qualities” list.

Let the power of God work in your heart and mind. He can change the course of your destiny…and your mood.
