Yesterday, I was talking to someone about some things they were worried about.
Today, I had to follow my own advice.
We all worry about different things…it depends on the season of life we are in or even the time of day. Worry can hit us at any time.
The question is what do we do with that worry?
In Steven Furtick’s book, “Crash the Chatterbox”, he shares his counselor’s most unlikely advice for worry. Ask yourself, “What if?”. What if the worst possible thing happened? Here’s the rest of that conversation:
Pastor Steven: “I’d be devastated.”
Counselor: “Right, it’d be one of the worst days of your life.”
Pastor Steven: “Yes. The worst. I have no idea how I’d get through it.”
Counselor: “But you would?”
Pastor Steven: “I would what?”
Counselor: “Get through it. You would get through it, wouldn’t you?”
Pastor Steven: “I guess I would. Somehow, God would get me through it…”.
As Pastor Steven heard himself saying those words, something “shifted inside” of him.
As I applied this to my situation, something lifted inside of me.
Was I still concerned? Yes. But I found my confidence in knowing Who was ultimately in control.
Is there something heavy on your heart and mind? Prepare – the best that you can. Pray – as hard you can. And maybe even play it out – trust what God can do no matter what happens.
“What if…that would…God will.”
