Although it was a while ago, I can still recall the excitement that was building up for senior year between photos, prom, the class trip, and graduation.

I think we can all agree that those momentous occasions were the culmination of all the years spent in school between studying, writing papers, and takings loads of exams.

So imagine the Class of 2020’s disappointment when those events cannot occur as planned due to the pandemic. One can be left wondering:
“What was this all for?”
“Does anyone even care?”

In the midst of such thoughts possibly popping up, it astounds me how this group of young people has shown strength and resilience. Many maintain a good attitude and forge ahead with their plans for the future.

Even though events have been postponed, it’s evident that these special young people are not forgotten. Just this past weekend on the scheduled date of graduation, my daughter was surprised by a parade from friends and family. Car after car streamed down the road cheering and celebrating her. I know this display of love will always be etched in my daughter’s mind as a reminder that she is cared for.

In Esther 6, we read that Mordecai discovered two of King Xerxes’ officers had planned to kill the king and he exposed them.  It sounds to me like he was just doing what he knew to be right.  And I think sparing a king’s life is a pretty big deal. Mordecai should have been awarded a medal of honor or received some kind of recognition immediately, but that was not the case. Naturally, he could have become disappointed because he was not noticed. He could have even resolved not to do the right thing again. But his humble heart continued to serve faithfully.

During a restless night, King Xerxes requested that the history of his reign be read aloud.  When he heard what Mordecai had done, he wanted to know how Mordecai had been honored.  After King Xerxes realized that recognition was never given, he saw to it that it was done expeditiously.  Mordecai was entrusted with a royal robe and a royal horse, which he rode on through the streets, while a royal proclamation was made.  Wow! Talk about an honor!

Dear Friend, maybe you find yourself in a position like Mordecai who seemed to be forgotten.  Keep doing the right thing. God sees you. He knows your name. Remember what His Word says, “And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” (Romans 8:28 AMP)
