I stared into the mirror.
Tired eyes were staring back at me.
No amount of concealer could hide the dark circles under those eyes. Not even the expensive kind.
It had been a long day, and I was ready to rest. I could feel the fatigue in my bones, and my face wasn’t hiding it.
A good night’s rest would hopefully put some life back in my eyes.
But I knew there was something deeper than what I could see in that reflection.
Our physical bodies, or “earth suits” according to the late Dr. Myles Munroe, house our spirits.
You are actually a spirit.
I, Elizabeth, am a spirit living inside this temporary vessel.
So although I see my “tent” in the mirror, who I really am is the spirit that lives inside me.
A good shut-eye will refresh my brain, muscles, and my bones, but how do we refresh our spirits?
Second Corinthians 4:16 says, “Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
No matter how much Botox is injected or how much is spent on anti-wrinkle cream, time doesn’t turn backwards. Our bodies are naturally wasting away.
Don’t underestimate time. Your time is your life.
How are you spending it? We aren’t here on Earth forever.
Our Spirits live on for eternity, but our earthly bodies slowly fade away.
It sounds cliche, but every moment should matter.
Who are the people in your life? How much time do you spend in front of the TV? Social Media?
How am I refreshing the spirit inside me? Just like we rest our bodies daily at night, we need to refresh our spirits.
One way I do that is through worship- daily. Today, I listened to “Worthy” by Elevation Worship and “Holy Forever” by Jenn Johnson.
Another way is through reading God’s Word- daily. What has helped me is being part of a group as we discuss passages online- daily. It keeps me accountable.
My spirit connects to the Holy Spirit through these two ways.
Daily.
I have a post-it note near my computer at work: “I am crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 (ESV)
This is a reminder that the power of Christ lives inside of me that activates me to work.
My work isn’t just a job. It’s my God-given assignment.
I pray that we are more aware of our time. While we are given life here on Earth, may our spirits be in tune with God and that we DAILY fulfill what He needs us to do.
Now, when I look in the mirror, I see deeper than my worn out eyes. I see a girl on a spiritual assignment. I see a woman that is equipped by the Spirit of God to fulfill a mission.
I see Christ living in me. And I need her to be fed with God’s Word and worship every single day.
