Every time I turn on the TV I hear that we are in unprecedented times.
Modern life as we know it has come to a screeching halt. Cities once filled with people, from Times Square to Las Vegas are now empty. The coronavirus has dominated every hour of the news for the past few weeks.
And I have to admit that watching too much of it has caused me to become weary and afraid.
In Matthew 14:22-33, when Peter stood with his eyes fixed on Jesus, he was able to walk on water. But as soon as he looked at the wind, he became afraid and started to sink.
As I focus on the growing number of infections and the mounting death toll, my heart sinks, just like Peter.
I have had to intentionally turn my eyes away from the news of the day and meditate on the truth of the word of God.
The Bible says in Psalms 1:2-3 “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8 echoes the same sentiment. “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”
Are you feeling anxious and afraid today? I pray that you take the time to meditate on His truth today. I believe that your heart and mind will be strengthened and encouraged.
