Have you ever wanted to curl up into a little ball and cry or crawl into bed under the covers because you felt so disappointed and frustrated that things didn’t go your way? But, of course, you’re an adult and you opt to take the mature route and hold your feelings in…except for the fact that deep down inside you feel like a lonely kid on the verge of a tantrum.
For the past year, I have been looking forward to the application date to get my daughter into a competitive charter school. I visited the facility about two years ago and imagined her being in one of their classrooms. I applied as early as I could and made sure all the questions were answered appropriately, then clicked the submit button.
Lottery day rolled around, and I was disappointed when her number was not among those randomly selected to attend. I had hoped and prayed and imagined…it just didn’t turn out as I had thought.
I was disappointed.
But, I know God’s plans are way, way better than mine. The Bible says in Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s propose that prevails.”
It’s not about me…or her. It’s about fulfilling God’s purpose THROUGH her.
Remember the Serenity Prayer? Take a few moments to let the words sink in. It is beautiful. Let this be your prayer today as you face situations that you don’t understand. It is not about you…
It is all about God fulfilling his purpose in and through you.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”
Reinhold Niebuhr
