Welcome to another episode of “Life Mimicking My Children’s Books”! Come in, sit down and stay for a while!

In this week’s episode, we will be discussing the book Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses by Kimberly Dean. Here’s the book report: Pete the cat wakes up one morning and is grumpy for no reason.  Pete is NEVER grumpy (I know!), so this is a big shock to his system.  As he begins to go through his day, a friend gives him a pair of “cool, blue sunglasses” that help him “see things in a whole new way.” Now all of a sudden, the formerly grumpy Pete is singing a new song: “The birds are singing, the sky is bright. The sun is shining. I’m feeling alright!” Here’s the spoiler alert: Pete  breaks the magic glasses and then realizes that they weren’t magic. He just had to change his perspective.

There are so many days that I wish that I owned a pair of magic blue sunglasses.  Today, for example, I was off and had a list of things today.  My husband proceeded to add another thing to that list and when I groaned at him, his response was, “You’re gonna be tired anyways. Why not be extra productive and satisfied with all that you’ve accomplished at the end of the day?” He was completely right. So, I added to my list and ran out the door.  Last week, I woke up tired. You know the tired that I’m talking about-  when you haven’t even had your first cup of coffee but you’re already planning for your second cup? I was that tired, but it had just been an accumulation of late nights and busy days taking care of life things.  I started to throw myself a pity party about how I needed more rest but stopped and wrote it down so that I could SEE it- Thank you God that I have a healthy family who wants my time and energy.  I know there will come a time when my kids will want less and less of me, so until then, I will just suck it up and be tired!

Perspective is an important tool. We would all benefit from a tangible hint or clue to indicate when we need a shift in our perspective. We all need a friend that will tell us to get over ourselves.  I think that I might just go to the store and buy a few pair of blue sunglasses and give them to my husband.  That way, when I need to change my perspective, he can just give them right back.
