I was the speaker for our meeting last month.  I will admit that I have a slight (or not so slight)  fear of public speaking.  It makes me incredibly uncomfortable.  I feel awkward knowing that there are so many eyes staring at me, expecting wise nuggets to fall out of my mouth.

During the month of March, as I was preparing, I mentioned my nervousness to my husband. My son overheard  and told me that I should just cancel (ha!).  I told him that I couldn’t do that since I had committed to doing it.  He said “What are you going to do if you’re scared?” I told him (as I have told him in the past) “I am just going to do it scared.”

Public speaking is a small battle in comparison to other issues that we face in our lives.  David gives us a tip on how to face these battles.

When we read about his battle with Goliath, 1 Sam 17: 48 says that “As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David quickly ran toward the battle line to meet him.” (NIV) He ran toward his opponent, head on.  When David is later crowned king , he must battle the Philistine army again.  I Chronicles 14:8 tells us that the Philistines were looking for the newly crowned king and “went in full force to find him.”  David is not in intimated by this. He consults with God, and then takes his men to go out and meet his enemy.  This is the man who ran when Saul was looking for him, but something about fighting those Philistines gets him all hyped up!

I like his tactic.   What is the enemy that you are facing today? Take God with you and go meet your enemy head on! With God on your side, you will not fail.
