There was that one class in college that I dreaded to take.
It was rumored to be a tough one that required a ton of memorization.
I held off registering for that class as long as I could.
Then, it came to the point of no return. Given it was required for my major, I had no choice but to finally take the course.
Microbiology.
It’s the study of microscopic organisms….yes, there are those critters that cause viruses and bacteria that invade the body and wreak havoc.
The name itself sounded long and scary.
But that was just the beginning.
Staphylococcus aureus.
Streptococcus pneumonia.
Enterococcus.
Klebsiella.
Foreign names I was required to memorize. And not only that- I needed to know how they could enter the body, what illnesses they would cause, and ways to treat them.
The scary rumors were getting to me, and I was overwhelmed with how I would memorize all the minute details.
Several weeks into the class, I distinctly remember sitting in the college library, and pulling out some blank index cards.
On each card, I started to write down the long name of the organism and the details of each organism.
And then I pretended. I was no longer a student in a library…I was the doctor I dreamed to be.
I envisioned that I was in an exam room, teaching my patients about the organism that caused their illness.
I told them that they way they got sick was from this bug named Staphylococcus. And I explained how they got it and how we would treat them so they could get better.
The entire scene took place in my head. And as I flipped each card and made a story out of Enterococcus and Klebsiella, they became more real to me…and easier to memorize.
I’m sure I was a sight to see at the library as my lips moved and as I played out the scene in my mind.
The words on the card were not just words….they were real organisms that were affecting my patients.
And only by the grace of God, today, that dream has become a reality. I have the honor of walking alongside patients as they heal from different organisms that cause symptoms in their body.
I wonder if that’s how Noah, Abel, Abraham, and Sarah lived.
These are people who lived with an expectation…a hope…that something was going to happen though they couldn’t see it.
They had faith.
“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for ; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” Hebrews 11:1
Faith is powerful. It is calling REALITY what we don’t see yet.
Abraham didn’t see the promised land before he obeyed and left his home. The Bible says “He went without knowing where he was going”
Noah didn’t see dark clouds before he obeyed and built a boat.
Moses’ parents couldn’t see into their baby’s future before they decided to hide their special child.
All of these people did things in FAITH. Their reality went beyond what they could see with their eyes.
They knew deep down in their hearts that God had something better for them…so they obeyed.
What do YOU want to see manifested in your life?
Ask God to give you the faith to see it become a reality.
Faith in our God is powerful. Don’t underestimate what our God can do in your life.
He will do above and beyond what you can ever ask, think, or imagine.
He has done it for me…and He will do it for you.
