Today is #girldad day in honor of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. It has been sweet to see all the pictures of dads with their girls.

My sister and I are blessed with a great dad. He taught us to read the Bible and pray everyday. He worked hard and instilled in us the importance of saving more and spending less. Being a girl didn’t stop my dad from teaching me about football either (my husband is especially grateful for that). He also demonstrated how powerful kindness and humility can be.

I know not everyone is so fortunate to have a father like mine. Or maybe you did but he is in Heaven now.

The fact is we are still daughters and have a wonderful Heavenly Father. One who promised never to leave or forsake us. A God who knows us at our worst but still loves us anyway.

In Matthew 1, it lists the genealogy of Jesus Christ. It starts out pretty typical but then you start to see names of women. If you’re thinking Esther and Ruth, think again. It’s women who were far from perfect like Tamar, Rahab, and Bathsheba. Regardless, our Heavenly Father had plans for His daughters then and rest assured, He hasn’t changed.

“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1 NLT

“The Lord gave the command; a great company of women brought the good news…” Psalm 68:11

“God is my strength, God is my song, and, yes! God is my salvation. This is the kind of God I have and I’m telling the world! This is the God of my father – I’m spreading the news far and wide!” Exodus 15:2 MSG

#girldad … us girls are in good hands.
