Have you been disappointed by someone who was dishonest with you?
I know I have. And I’m sure you have too.
And if I’m completely honest, there many times that I was not completely honest towards someone else.
And so, over and over, the flaws of humanity rears its ugly head in our relationships with each other.
But the writer of Hebrews makes a stark contrast when he describes the character of God.
He tells us that God binds himself with his promise and his oath. And as a result, we can trust his promises for our lives because he cannot lie [Hebrews 6:17-19, NLT]. And our hope in God is an anchor for our very own souls.
That is so powerful! God CANNOT lie. He can’t. And he won’t.
But people can. And oftentimes they do.
But I have come to understand that human beings, including myself, are broken because of the fall in the Garden of Eden. And while we may strive for perfection, we will ALWAYS fall short.
And so, the sacrifice of Christ’s life for us holds a greater significance. His death on the cross and the shedding of his blood covers my past, my present, and my future sin.
And I am no longer sentenced to death because of my inability to keep all the rules.
I thank God that I do not have to come to a human high priest with the blood of a spotless lamb to cover up my sin. Our high priest, Jesus, has taken his blood and covered our sin once and for all.
I hope you are encouraged that even though people disappoint you, God will not. His son died to prove how much he loved you. Trust in his word. Trust in his promise. Because He will never lie.
