Growing up, my church would sing the chorus of this song over and over again…in three different languages! Malayalam, Hindi and English. It was simple and catchy.

“God is so good, He’s so good to me.”

As I got older, life happened, and there were definite seasons when this song became more difficult for me to sing (and truly mean what I was singing).  Somehow, I began to equate God’s goodness to life’s little check marks.

Get a Degree ✅

Land my dream job ✅

Get married ✅

God was good as long as the check marks continued. Check marks are nice, but the truth is, there will always be one more thing, one more thing for me (and God) to check off. But what happens if things get delayed or God doesn’t do what I want Him to do…is God’s goodness up for debate?

Of course not.

God’s goodness can not be measured by life’s check marks no more than my goodness as a parent can be measured by the number of trophies and ribbons displayed in my kids’ room.

God’s goodness stands alone….Jesus finished work on the cross at Calvary speaks louder than any check mark ever could.

It’s great to have big dreams and a list of goals still unchecked…but while we wait, I pray we never doubt,

“God is so good, He’s so good to me.”

This song has once again become my praise jam! Maybe it’ll become yours too.
