I remember it so clearly.  My 7th grade science class had the privilege of going on a field trip to the zoo.  I was so excited because I knew that not every class was able to go.  And I was really looking forward to a day away from my regular old classroom.

But in my excitement, I also remember feeling somewhat sad that this would be the last field trip in my school career.  You see, I knew that field trips were reserved for elementary school, so I assumed that this would be my last field trip during my time as a student.

I know all this may seem silly to you.  But growing up, most of my activities revolved around church and family gatherings, so to have an opportunity to go to the zoo with my class was really exciting for me.  And, my 12 year old brain could not comprehend that there could be something more exciting or fun for me past this field trip.

Boy was I wrong!  From my time in college and beyond, God has given me the opportunity to travel all over the world, including an unforgettable 3 week trip to the Holy Land!  If my 12 year old self knew what God had planned for me, I would not have been able to fathom it.

As I look back and laugh at my younger self, I realize that I still put limits on God today.  How many times have I interpreted a situation in my life as the end of the world, seeing no way out, only to see God come through in the most creative way and unexpected ways?

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think…” (Ephesians 3:20, NKJV)

It’s not just a scripture to put on my wall.  It really encompasses my experience with God.  Because I cannot comprehend the “how”, I tend to think it’s impossible.

But over and over in scripture we find the impossible, followed by the exceedingly abundantly God.

God birthed a son, and subsequently a nation, through a 100 year old man and his 90 year old wife

God opened up the sea so that His people could escape slavery and become a people to bless all the nations of the world.

God used the praise and worship of his people to confuse the enemies of God into fighting each other, while Israel did not even have to lift their sword.

God used the unlikeliest and most seemingly undeserving people to carry out His perfect plan on the earth.

How about you?  Are you feeling like your situation only has one possible outcome, and it is not a good one?

I want to encourage you today.  Don’t let your own understanding limit what God can do in your life.   Trust that He sees and knows a way that you have never thought of.  And I believe He will work it out in a way that far exceeds your expectation.
