Luke 22:42 “Father if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
As the hour was approaching for Jesus to be betrayed and arrested, He sat in Gethsemane and agonized over what he was about to go through. Father, does it have to be this way? Do I really have to walk this road of suffering to fulfill your plan?
But the Father was silent. And Jesus knew what He had to do. ”Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
Do you find yourself on a similar road today?
Are you asking God to please find another way? Does this really have to be a part of my story?
The divorce you didn’t want. The infertility you’re facing. The financial crisis you never expected to be in. The season of singleness you find yourself in, when you thought for sure by this age you would be married.
In this difficult Gethsemane can you say “Nevertheless” as Jesus did?
Nevertheless is defined as “in spite of, regardless, anyway, despite”.
Despite what you see right now. Despite the bleak future your mind is imagining. Despite the crushing pain you feel today….Will you humbly exchange your best laid plan to the one who hung the stars and knows you by name?
I pray today that you will trust the One who has been where you have been. He too has felt the weight of disappointment, betrayal, shame, and loss.
But He took all of it to the cross so that you and I could live in freedom and victory. Despite where you find your life today, this is not the end. Your story isn’t finished. There is resurrection on the other side of Gethsemane.
His Plan is much bigger and better than you could ever imagine. Hold on. Don’t give up. Sunday is on it’s way.
