Whenever I would try to read the Bible throughout my life, I would always gravitate towards the Psalms, Proverbs, or the gospels.  To be completely honest, I would just read sporadically with good intentions, but ultimately, I didn’t fully grasp what the Bible was really all about.

So when the Whispers & Fringes discipleship program embarked on reading through the Bible in chronological order 2 years ago, I was really excited.

You see, anyone who knows me knows that I have a thing with dates.  Most events in my memory are categorized by the general date that it occurred.  And for some reason, following things in chronological order helps me to remember it and understand it better.

So needless to say, reading through the Bible in chronological order was eye opening for me.

I was finally able to understand the big picture of God’s story and the timeline in which God’s plan unfolded before us.

And it was through this process that I read through the books and chapters of the Bible that in all my years of being a Christian, I had never read.

But it was through reading the scripture in this manner that I finally understood that every detail, even Leviticus and Numbers, were intentionally included to give help us understand how much God loves us.  Yes, even these books reflect God’s love for His people!

And that is what I hope you will see as you read through the Bible.  That every detail is important and adds to our understanding of the overwhelming, reckless love of God that loves us through our mess, our correction, and ultimately our restoration.

I am honored to have been a contributor to the Whispers & Fringes one year chronological devotional.  As I read through each difficult passage that initially made little sense to me, I prayed that God would give me something to write about that would encourage you.  I do not consider myself a writer, so I am overwhelmed by God’s grace to give me a nugget of truth and wisdom for this project that I believe will give you hope even in the darkest of times.

If you haven’t read through the Bible yet, let this coming year and new decade be the year that you experience God in a way that you have never before.  His word is living and active and it will speak to you today as it spoke to generations before.
