Tomorrow is my kids’ last day of school. This academic year has flown by. This CALENDAR year is flying by.

As we were talking about all the things that they’re going to “miss” about school (which was a very short list), I started remembering my own anxiety that I had about their school year.

That anxiety started back in 2020, when the previous school year came to an abrupt halt. We knew that it was going to be their final year at that school, and I was so sad for them that they couldn’t go back and say bye to their friends. They did have a brief drive through parade to say bye to their teachers. I had anxiety about what the 2021 school year would look like for them at a new school. How would they handle the move? Would we send them in person? Would they be able to handle wearing a mask? What kind of teachers would they have? Would they make friends? Would they be able to find their classes? Would they catch Covid-19 from school? Would they spread it to the grandparents? They started in-person learning after the first grading period, and we were told that there was a chance that they wouldn’t be at their assigned school but could possibly transfer back at some point in the year. That could mean that they would start TWO new schools in one school year!

SO.MUCH.FEAR. So, we prayed. That’s all that we could do.

I wanted to share this for all the moms out there that get anxious about their kids in the ways that I do.

We had a great year. My kids ended up at the school that they were assigned to- which is in our neighborhood and within walking distance from our house. They wore masks like it was nothing. My daughter had a fantastic teacher. My son had a teacher whose sarcasm only rivals my own– needless to say, he felt at home. He met two boys before the school year started and God placed them all in class together. My daughter came home after the first day and told me that she made 6 BFFs. They made friends. They did normal kid things. We survived a week long snow storm. Every night, we prayed for their teachers, friends and their respective families. They stayed healthy and so did their classmates. Even when my husband and I caught Covid, my kids stayed healthy. In time, God answered every single prayer.

Isaiah 41:13 says “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”

That’s exactly what He did for us. He took us by the hand and walked us through every challenge that the school year brought us. And He will do the same for you.

Can I encourage you to pray about your anxieties? You may not get the response that you want, but there is a blessing in the submission. There is a blessing in the obedience of casting all of your cares upon Him. No matter what the outcome, He will sustain you.

“We’ll see you breakdown every wall
We’ll watch the giants fall
Fear cannot survive when we praise you.
The God of breakthrough is on our side
Forever lift Him high
With all creation cry, God, we praise you” (We Praise You- Bethel Music)
