Irrational Fears Swinging Out of Control
I have an irrational fear. I take that back... I have several irrational fears. Most of mine are about driving... I have an irrational fear of cars coming unhooked from car haulers on the highway. (I think that one is from the movies!) I have a fear of the retaining walls that they put up during road construction. I have an irrational fear of my SUV hatch dropping on me while I am unloading my trunk. (My husband assures me that there are safety measures in place.) The other day, we were at the park and I uncovered another irrational
The New Me
I used to be a mean girl. If you don't believe me, just ask my sister, who found the perfect opportunity to share some examples at my recent birthday celebration. Unfortunately, growing up, she experienced the brunt of my bossy attitude more than anyone else, and somehow (fortunately), it went under my parents' radar. Some people are mean and don't know it. I knew it. And I wanted to change. So, in the weeks before moving away to college, I made a decision to strive to be a different person- kinder and sweeter. I didn't like who I had become.
A Helping Hand
A few days ago, my youngest daughter decided to put her new slushie machine to use. She had seen this item months ago in the store and asked for it on her Christmas wish list. Now that my daughter had it, the box was opened and there were pieces to assemble on the machine. In addition, she had to measure and mix the syrup for the flavors she wanted. Then, my daughter had to freeze water in the provided mold for ice. Once the ice cube was ready, she had to put it into the machine and manually crank the
Stay Salty…
My entire pharmacy career has been within the walls of a grocery store...and girl, it sure has its perks. 24/7 access to sushi, Starbucks, and warm chocolate chip cookies. Not to mention a ginormous chip aisle and plenty of produce! My mid-shift snack options are endless! Plus, I don’t need to make an extra stop for groceries after work, I’m already there! Staple items, like bread, milk, and eggs are always just a few feet away. So it blew my mind when, a few months ago, I reached into my spice cabinet as I was preparing dinner, and realized...I was
Saying Yes to the Discomfort
All right, it's confession time... I didn't want to post this picture. I don't like the way that I look in this picture. Actually, I really disliked the way I looked in every picture we took that day. That evening, I told myself that I wasn't going to post any of these pictures. Then I got this nudge. You know that nudge- The one that keeps on nudging until you slap it away or do something about it? Posting this picture is symbolic of my entire year. From start to finish 2019 nudged me out of my comfort zone. Every
Tis the Season … to Show Love
When I first realized that I may be the only connection for some people to experience the love of God, I changed my approach to how I do things. For example, when my family and I are dining out for a meal, I ask the server what their name is so I can address them by name in our interactions. Then, while we pay the bill at the end of the meal, I take a moment to write a note about the excellent service we received from the server. I conclude my words with “God bless you” or “Smile! God
“Quest For More” – My Story
Writing this book didn’t necessarily start when I typed my first devotional. God was using circumstances in my life to bring it to pass even before that. Romans 8:27-28 (MSG) “He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” ~Anu https://youtu.be/zT0nwBofmzs
Calm in the Storm
It was a trip we had been excited about for months - our first cruise. The preparation included a long, painful visit to the Passport Office, where my kids got bored within the first five minutes and numerous visits to the store to pick up last-minute items. Nevertheless, the excitement pushed us through, and finally the day arrived. After a long maze through security lines where we inched closer to the massive ship, we were finally inside! It truly was an unbelievable sight. People were everywhere, some lounging on the sofas nearby and others, relaxed, and chatting excitedly. They seemed
Making the Best of Your Situation
While I go to the salon to have my eyebrows threaded, I love chatting with the sweet lady who does them for me. Our last conversation revolved around our plans for the holidays. After I shared how I would be visiting with each side of my family, I asked her what she would be doing. Her response was, “It’s nice that you have family here, but I don’t. It’s just my husband, my son, and my husband’s parents. So we won’t be doing anything.” I could hear the disappointment in her voice. When she was done threading, I asked her
God Knows All Things
It’s been a weird month. A few weeks ago, I got a phone call from my husband. He was at the car dealership taking care of a recall...and he just so happened to run into someone we hadn’t seen in twenty years! The pastor who conducted our wedding! (He was also my youth pastor in college, a man who taught the Bible in a way that made me want to read it). He and his family’s Thanksgiving plans had changed due to a snow storm, so as God would have it, they joined us for Thanksgiving dinner! And what an
