Going from Grateful to Hateful
A few weeks ago, I shared that we had the opportunity to travel to india earlier this summer. It was definitely an adventure for our family. Our first few nights in India, I had a hard time falling asleep. I remember laying in bed one night, listening to the hum of the AC unit, trying like mad to drift off. In my frustration, I began to pray. I thanked God for our safe travels, our health during the journey, family to stay with, food to eat, for AC in my room, and even for the means and opportunity to take this trip.
Delays to Your Destination
Last week, we at Whispers and Fringes were blessed with the opportunity to speak at a conference in Miami. Not only was it an honor for us to equip and encourage others together, but we walked away with fun memories. But the travel … well, that's a different story. When we boarded in Dallas, we didn't take off immediately. In fact, after fastening our seat belts and waiting patiently for this journey to begin, we were instructed to exit the plane. Once we did so, we had to ride a speedy tram from one end of the airport to another.
The Real Thing
My son is a car aficionado. At age 4, he was able to tell the difference between the Tesla Model X and Model S. They were just random letters to me. While matchbox cars look like colorful generic mini toys in my eyes, he recognizes the fine details and reveals what kind of vehicle they are. "This is a Corvette, Mama!" "Look at this Camaro!" To say that I'm impressed is an understatement. So, when he was invited to a Tesla store one day, he was thrilled. He sat quietly as the gentleman thoroughly explained how Teslas function with a
It Just So Happened
About 17 years ago I was walked into a 56 story building in downtown Dallas for a job interview. As I was entering the building, completely focused on preparing for the interview, I heard someone call my name. I thought I imagined it, so I kept on walking. But I heard my name again, and this time I looked around to see who it was. It turned out to be a Human Resources recruiter who happened to be the same person who helped recruit me to my previous job. He was surprised to see me in this building, and asked
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall…
This past month, I had the opportunity to vacation/survive in India. It was our first time going as a family of four. My husband and I went 15 years ago, a few months after we were married, to meet the extended family. This time, we were going with our kids, and planned several stops within our trip. We had the fortunate ability to stay with our family while we were there. Our first stop was in Gujurat. We were tired and hot and were provided with a comfortable room that included AC. It was dark and cold- the perfect room
The R Word
I still remember when I felt prompted by the Lord to leave my career and become a stay at home mom. It was unexpected and certainly not something I had ever imagined doing. Yet, it felt right and I was excited to take the leap of faith. While I enjoyed being home with my babies, I was not prepared for what was going to happen to my mindset. Suddenly, I felt that I had to compensate for the income that I was not bringing home. I didn’t know how to do that except to be on ALL the time. I
Know Your Place
A few weeks before graduating from medical school, I remember being in the elevator with 2 of my closest friends. I admitted to them that I really didn't want to leave school...I wanted to remain in the safety of the four walls and just learn stuff. They thought I was crazy. While my friends were eager to burst through the exit door after 4 years of grueling written and oral exams, I was okay with just hanging out...learning stuff. My biggest obstacle in school, as far as I was concerned, was studying for and passing another exam. The worst that
Sideways Rain
It was my youngest son’s second day of work. He joined his big brother and I at a nearby grocery store. I work in the pharmacy, and he works up front. He’s the guy who asks if you want paper or plastic then kindly takes your groceries out to your car. I couldn’t be more proud. But a couple of Sundays ago, between the wind and the “severe thunderstorm” radio alerts, I couldn’t have been more concerned. The view from my pharmacy drive thru window only intensified my fears. I saw trees swaying and debris flying like I had never
Leaving a Godly Legacy
As a child, my parents hosted many events in our home whether it was having friends over for dinner or having our family over during the holidays. We learned at a young age that in order for our home to be prepared for our guests, each of us had to help out with groceries, cooking and/or cleaning. Honestly, as a kid, I may have preferred to do anything besides work. But the truth is that I loved working alongside my mom in the kitchen. Not only did I learn how to cook, but it was a great time of conversing
Doubting No More
I recently went on vacation to Kerala, India with my family. This was my first trip to India in 22 years. Even though I was born and raised in the United States, I had the privilege of going back to India on several occasions when I was growing up. But as a child and teenager visiting India, I didn’t understand the significance of how much my heritage from Kerala played such a big role in me knowing Christ. You see, it all started with Thomas. You know Thomas, right? The one who has infamously been named “doubting Thomas”? Thomas was
