The Lab Coat…A Lesson on Trust

By |February 7th, 2019|Categories: Devotionals, Misc.|Tags: , , |Comments Off on The Lab Coat…A Lesson on Trust

My friend and I can laugh about it now, but it wasn’t very funny twenty five years ago when it all went down... I was in my last year of college, tired from a busy day and getting ready for bed...when it hit me. I have rotations in the morning and I forgot to wash my lab coat! Thankfully, my best friend (who was also my next door neighbor) was planning on doing her laundry that evening . She was more than happy to add my dirty coat to her load. What a relief! Now I could rest....or not. Unfortunately,

Always

The picture is about as old school as you can get.  That is obvious. What isn’t so obvious is that we had been arguing on the way to the studio. Unfortunately, that was the case for the first few years of our marriage. I can remember another time that my husband and I were at a wedding (yes, a wedding) and we got into a little disagreement at the reception. There was a crowd of people in the lobby so our voices were being drowned out by the noise around us.  Or so I thought. After my final, mic drop,

God Notices You

What is your motivation when you decide to do a good thing? For most people, the answer is simply because it’s the right thing to do, not for the accolades or extra attention. In Esther 6,  we read that when Mordecai discovered that two of King Xerxes’ officers had planned to kill the king, he exposed them.  Sounds to me like he was just doing what he knew to be right. And I think sparing a king’s life is a pretty big deal. It only seems fitting that he should have been awarded a medal of honor or something commendable.

Fingerprints

My 5 year-old figured out my husband's smartphone password, so all the apps and games were within easy access for my little man.  He was so quick at grabbing the phone that we would be in constant search for it. There was no telling where my son was hiding with it. So, in an effort to prevent access to the apps, my husband decided to remove the password completely and changed it to  fingerprint access only.  By doing this, only he could be able to unlock the world hidden in his phone. This didn't stop my little guy. When my

When Things Get Worse Before Getting Better

For years my husband was involved with praise and worship and I was engaged in teaching young children from God’s Word. Each of us loved serving the Lord in these areas. But eventually, we felt that the Lord was transitioning us to something new. So, we obeyed and decided that together we would serve married couples. We have been passionate about sharing with others what a godly marriage entails and even refer to our own experiences as lessons of what to do and more importantly, what not to do ;) We prayed. We trusted. And then, we put ourselves out

My Little Helpers

My kids love helping in the kitchen.  Well, scratch that.  They really love helping in the kitchen when it's something that THEY want to eat- usually desserts but sometimes dinner.  When they hear me start to prep, they run into the kitchen (especially my daughter) , frantically asking "Can I help? Can I help??" (I think they do this because they know that helping usually includes taste testing or licking the spoon!) I have noticed a little trend in their helpfulness...I am in charge of the more 'dangerous' things- the knife, the stove or oven, the mixer. Occasionally, I will

Small Beginnings

What is my life’s purpose? Why was I put on this earth to accomplish? This is likely the most asked question by every human being on the planet at some point in their life. But what if the answer to that big question isn’t one big purpose?   In the book of Zechariah, we see how something seemingly small, was a part of something great. Towards the end of the Babylonian exile, some of the Israelites were allowed to go back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple.  The project was a huge undertaking and they were met with naysayers who

Remembering an Impactful Leader

By |January 21st, 2019|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , , , , , |Comments Off on Remembering an Impactful Leader

I am a history buff.  I love reading about the successes and failures of the past to learn from it.  I am particularly intrigued by courageous leaders who left an imprint in history to make our world a better place to live.  Combatting injustices and fighting for freedom especially captivates my heart. The sacrifices such leaders made, the love they had for humanity, and the humility which they walked in leaves me feeling grateful for their contributions.  But it also inspires me to lead with such passion. There are many leaders who come to mind that fit this description.  One,
