Daddy’s Little Girl

By |July 20th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , , , , , , |Comments Off on Daddy’s Little Girl

I am not a parent but I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be a very good one. And that has nothing to do with the fact that I gave my nephews extra dessert or that they stayed up until 2 a.m. when they were at my house. (At this point, you are probably agreeing with my first statement and have decided never to send your children to my house.) Actually, the realization came when someone shared with me that they may be transitioning their child to a new school. Once the child heard this was a possibility, they ended up

The Wait

By |July 20th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook, Misc.|Comments Off on The Wait

The waiting can be hard and sometimes we don't understand why we go through the pain of waiting. I waited and waited and searched and met and talked and hoped...but I just couldn't find the right person to share my life with. I thought to myself how easy some women seemed to find their spouses, and why for me it was such a struggle. Then, I prayed and prayed and cried to God, and he heard me. I was at a prayer meeting one night and decided that I would focus my prayers on this special need. On my way

Understood

By |July 18th, 2016|Categories: Misc.|Tags: , |Comments Off on Understood

When I read my sister's post this past Saturday on being an "understanding wife," this was the image which came to my mind. A new roll of toilet paper on top of an old one- it's an all too common occurrence as I walk into my bathroom. In the early years of my marriage- this sight would have caused a myriad of negative reactions- annoyance, nagging, annoyance ....did I mention annoyance? Seventeen years into marriage, God reminds me...it's not a big deal...so I laugh, take a pic and 5 seconds later- I put the new roll on properly. The years

The Gift of Understanding

By |July 16th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on The Gift of Understanding

“I understand.” In certain situations, those might be the 2 greatest words paired together in the English language. Knowing that you have been understood doesn’t mean you’ve been fixed.  It means that you've been figured out...the person gets you. Did you know that God’s desire for us as wives is to be understanding? Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the Lord can give an understanding wife.  Proverbs 19:14 I’m sure I’ve read that verse before but it never hit me the way it did this time.  I heard it in a sermon this

Peacemakers vs. Peacekeepers

By |July 15th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals|Comments Off on Peacemakers vs. Peacekeepers

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9) Are you a Peacekeeper or a Peacemaker? I’ve been thinking about this question recently, especially in light of the tragedies that we’ve experienced as a nation recently.  I did some research and found some key differences between the two. Peacekeepers work to keep tensions from rising. They pretend that nothing is wrong and avoid conflict at any cost. Peacekeepers believe that pursuing peace means to keep quiet and not to speak the truth or not to share how they really feel. Even though we think

You are His

An elderly lady walked up to the pharmacy counter and spoke softly to our clerk, "Could YOU help me?...I'd rather HER not...HER kind of people are dirty." I was the 'HER' she was referring to, standing at a distance behind the counter. Aside from being called 'Comanche' by a middle school bully,  this was my first real experience with racism. It's been over a decade since the incident occurred, but I still remember how it made me feel. My heart raced. My voice quivered. Her words stung. But I knew who I was. And I was not dirty. No part

Sermon – How to Stop the Violence in America

By |July 14th, 2016|Categories: Facebook, Misc.|Tags: , , , , |Comments Off on Sermon – How to Stop the Violence in America

This has been a harrowing week in my city.  Until now, I was a by-stander, watching these events unfold in various parts of America. I always knew that my city was vulnerable but you never know just how vulnerable until it actually happens.  So many thoughts have been racing through my mind- What do I tell my kids? Should I go out? Should I stay in? What do I do about this anxiety and fear that I feel building inside of me? As I sat to pray last week, words wouldn't come out.  I just sat and waited for God

Countenance

My daughter and I were at the park playing with the new baseball glove and ball that she received. She was excited about it, and as I threw the ball to her a few times I realized how good of an arm she had. I thought this was interesting, given the glove and ball were initially meant for her brother. After about half an hour, she told me to make a mean face when I threw the ball to her and she, too, put a growl on her face "because that's how people play". So, just to go along with

The Pleasantness of Unity

By |July 12th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , |Comments Off on The Pleasantness of Unity

Last night as I was watching a sitcom, the episode focused on a couple attempting to host their engagement party amidst anger and tension between their parents. To solve this unacceptable problem, the main character created a unity blanket which she displayed for the entire family to see. It had a beautifully stitched square for each family member. Eventually, the family members agreed to be peaceful with one another for the sake of the couple. It made me think of the present tension we have been experiencing in our country. Like the main character I mentioned, I feel quite sad but

Scripture for Peace

By |July 9th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook, Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on Scripture for Peace

"But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness." James 3:17-18 NLT I pray that in light of the tragic events of this week that the wisdom of the Lord will guide us and may His peace overtake us when words are not enough. ~ Vijoy
