Reading through the Word of God
Whenever I would try to read the Bible throughout my life, I would always gravitate towards the Psalms, Proverbs, or the gospels. To be completely honest, I would just read sporadically with good intentions, but ultimately, I didn’t fully grasp what the Bible was really all about. So when the Whispers & Fringes discipleship program embarked on reading through the Bible in chronological order 2 years ago, I was really excited. You see, anyone who knows me knows that I have a thing with dates. Most events in my memory are categorized by the general date that it occurred. And
But First…
It was a typical Friday morning. I was off from work and wanted to start my day. But first...coffee and Jesus. While I was still in my pajamas and fuzzy socks, I grabbed my coffee, climbed back in bed and opened my laptop to read my Bible. (Thank you YouVersion!) I was ready to dive into the Word but then heard my phone ding. Actually, it was more like “Pick me up now! Don’t you want to know who just texted you?” So, I gave in. After I read the text, I put my phone down and started reading my
Small Prayers Getting Big Results
My daughter lost 2 teeth in a week. This was a big deal around our house. She is six and had not lost any teeth yet. She had seen her big brother lose several teeth and was waiting patiently for her turn. Finally, she had one loose tooth! She bit into a corn dog, not realizing that the stick went all the way through. This was all that was needed to ramp up an already wiggly tooth. She wiggled it and wiggled it, excited at what the tooth fairy would bring her once it came out. Loose teeth really gross
The Presence of God
While I was driving a few weeks ago, I was overwhelmed with gratitude and praise to the Lord. No, I had not won the lottery … although that would have been nice ;) I had not even been the recipient of really great news. Earlier that morning, I was at a medical appointment. A procedure had been done to help my child with a challenge that has been around for years. There was pain and also, anxiety associated with the procedure. As a mom, my heart aches each time I see my children in any kind of distress or pain.
Our Heart Behind the Book
Reading through the Bible in a year always seems like a great idea...but a few weeks into the New Year, the glamour and excitement of it all begins to fade. And once I get to Book #3 out of 66, I start to wonder, what have I gotten myself into. There is something so intimidating and NOT inviting about the book of Leviticus. But a few January 1 ago, as I set out to read the entire Bible (again), things were different...I wasn’t alone! I joined our Whispers and Fringes Discipleship group on a year long journey of reading the
Goodness of God
As we head into Thanksgiving, I can’t help but reflect on the goodness of God in my life. It’s not because I had a great year full of success and mountaintop experiences. There were many highs, but there were also many difficult trials and loss. But it was through the most challenging of circumstances, I have seen God’s sweet presence walk with me and give me strength and joy through it all. I pray that you will be able to see the goodness of God even through your story and know that God is always faithful, even when we can’t
My Journey in Quest For More
There have been numerous teachable moments in my life. Writing for our devotional, Quest For More, has been no exception. For me, the process of writing involved reading the assigned Scripture, praying about what the Lord was saying to me, and then jotting those thoughts down. As much as I love to write, I found myself feeling challenged to do so. You see, there was a battle in my mind: Who am I that God would want to speak to me? What qualifies me to share these thoughts with women? Fear and insecurity had reared their ugly heads. It didn’t
Auto Detail
We had an inconvenience today...one that required my husband to serve as the family chauffeur. A few weeks ago, while reversing my car into the garage, it scraped against an old bicycle we had laying against the wall. Unbeknownst to me, a part of the car paneling was being pulled apart as I scraped against it. I'm sure there is a technical word for paneling, but needless to say, we needed to get body work done on the car...all due to my mistake. My husband's reliable friend was able to take the car into his shop to repair it, but
Autocorrect Blunder
Oh, the woes of autocorrect! My cousin and I were finalizing plans to meet up. My phone ding'd. I had just texted him so I was expecting his response...but I surely wasn’t expecting THIS response. What in the world? I read it again. And then again. The sentence made sense...I guess. But was that four letter word really necessary? "Did you just mean to curse?” I messaged my cousin. I figured this had to be some sort of autocorrect error...and it was. Whew! My cousin and I had a good laugh about the whole thing...but it got me thinking. How often does
