5 Ingredient White Queso

By |October 13th, 2016|Categories: Misc.|Comments Off on 5 Ingredient White Queso

I love football season.  This is the time of year that I am permanently attached to my couch every Sunday afternoon.  It's also a great excuse to hang out with friends and eat junk food.  One of my favorite appetizers to munch on is queso.  Easy to make and always a hit.  So, I was intrigued by this recipe that has no Velveeta in it.  Don't get too excited- it's still not healthy at all but you can make it with more "real" ingredients. 5 Ingredient White Queso In case you're not on Pintrest, here are the ingredients: 1 lb pepper jack cheese

Resting in God

Recently, I came home after an extremely busy day at work. I was hungry and exhausted and admittedly, could have displayed a more pleasant attitude. I blamed the sour mood on my day.  The next day, my poor attitude still weighed heavy on me, and I developed a headache that lingered for some time. I knew that stress probably had something to do with it.  A few months ago my husband developed a small infection on his finger. With the appropriate treatment and prayer, his skin started healing well. During that time, he mentioned how his mind was also affected.

It’s Time to Battle

Extra! Extra! Read all about it: "Every baby boy that is born must be killed."  Imagine waking up to such a headline. Such was the order given about the Hebrews in Exodus 1:22. Responses to such news could include: 1) becoming overcome by fear displayed through hysterical behavior ie. crying, panic, etc. and paralyzed by the fear OR 2) looking to the Source for an answer and being proactive in the solution. When I think of those circumstances of being a powerless slave in a land where my people were despised, I'm afraid there's a possibility that my

Jalapeno Popper Chicken Chili

As we head into fall and start to enjoy cooler weather, here's a great recipe to add to your collection.  It's a healthy and tasty version of chili that your family will enjoy. I made this for my family this week,  and even the kids were asking for seconds! - Vijoy Here are the modifications I made: - I browned the ground beef and ground chicken on the stove before adding to the crock pot in order to cut down on the cooking down. - I used a green bell pepper instead of red, as our family likes the green

Table for 2

Do you have an enemy? I’m pretty sure back in elementary school, I had a few “you’re not my friend anymore” situations but I don’t even know if back then, I would have said they are my enemy. Today, thankfully, I don’t have any enemies (that I know of) but I think many of us have people that we may still put in the “you’re not my friend anymore” status. There’s one scripture in particular that comes to mind when we refer to our enemies. Next to John 3:16, it might be one of the most well-known passages in the Bible

From Ordinary to Extraordinary

By |October 5th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on From Ordinary to Extraordinary

Have you ever looked at someone else and wished you could live like they did?  Like, maybe a celebrity or someone you personally know?  They seem to dress right, know the right people, and are popular. At work today, a colleague mentioned how she wanted to be best friends with a particular celebrity couple...just for those reasons: beauty, dress, fame. It's hard to admit it, but I've fallen into that trap many times.  Over time, though, I have learned to appreciate my life and what God has given me. While it seems they live a glamorous lifestyle, those who earn

Trust AND Obey

While on our road trip in Missouri, I was able to capture this lovely photo of my kiddos in front of the Sight and Sound Theater. They appear so sweet to me, especially as they stand in front of the statue of the Lion and the Lamb. But the pics posted on social media are the "nice" ones, which lead people to believe we have a "perfect" life. The reality is that my angels did not appear so sweet prior to this trip. My husband was away the entire week for work, so I had the "joy" of dealing with

Tear Down the Walls

By |October 1st, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on Tear Down the Walls

Walls are good. Just ask Trump. (Actually, I’m not talking about that kind of wall.) We all want a house with walls. Walls create distinct boundaries and separate spaces. In ancient times, walls were built around cities to help protect them from attack. (Cue Trump again). But sometimes, walls exist that we can’t actually see but we know are there. These walls are not built with stone or brick or even by human hands. Instead, they are built by our thoughts. And it will take more than a bulldozer to tear it down. Proverbs 18:19b An offended friend is harder

Always on Time

Tomorrow is my youngest son’s 3rd birthday.  I still remember the day like it was yesterday. I was 33 weeks pregnant and I wasn’t feeling well.  My blood pressure had spiked and my doctor instructed that I come to the hospital to make sure everything was okay.  After a being at the hospital and resting for a little bit, my blood pressure came down and I was sure I’d be going home and resting for the remainder of the pregnancy.  But the doctor came in and said my lab work didn’t look right and that she had to deliver our
